Dear friends,
We have noticed that your membership in the Serbian Unity Congress has expired
over the past few years, without having been renewed it so far. Hopefully this is just
an oversight; perhaps there are deeper reasons for this. In either case, I hope that
you will consider rejoining us, and would like to take this opportunity to briefly
explain why.
First off - we are very grateful for your participation thus far, and really hope we can
count on the continued support of members whose trust we have earned. For SUC,
it is very important to have a large member base, as that increases our visibility and
strengthens the confidence in our work, while allowing for a more effective focus
on our key efforts. How successful were these efforts? While not all hard work bears
immediate fruit, the following three major accomplishments of the last year stand
out:
(1) The Congressional Serbian Caucus was formed in the US House of
Representatives. A year ago, this was exactly what we set as our goal in
Washington. The "P3" - presence, persistence, professionalism - did pay off. The
Serbian Caucus should help us open more channels for effective information flow
and idea promotion throughout all relevant branches of US Government. We need
your help - both talents and treasures - to get as many Members of Congress on
board as possible.
(2) Our key cultural projects - the BLAGO Fund and St Sava Literary Award -
have achieved new milestones, and increasingly allow our members to participate
in preserving and promoting Serbian heritage, as well as fostering further original
cultural development.
(3) Our work in the Homeland produced concrete and important results:
Diaspora members can finally vote in their countries of residence; we have laws on
the books regulating Diaspora issues; the Ministry for Diaspora is real.
Hopefully, you will agree that all of these achievements implement key aspects of
our mission. While several overall factors and team players contributed to their
realization, the SUC was instrumental to success in each case. And that role could
not have been played without the loyal support of members like you.
This is why I count on you to renew your membership today. Perhaps -
circumstances permitting - you will even choose to donate extra, as the quality of
our projects and work really depend on it. As usual, we are a non-profit
organization and all your donations are tax deductible. Please consider donating in
regular monthly installments - even via credit card. Just think of it - an extra $100 a
year is only $2 a week; it might not get you a Starbucks coffee, but it will take us a
long way.
