It's been a year since we opened our office in Washington. The Serbian Unity Congress helps promote Serbia and fight defamation of Serbs ... free of charge ... every single day! Your contribution means a great deal to the organization, but even more to the Serbs who rely on the Serbian Unity Congress as their voice in Washington to help them through some of the most difficult times in Serbian history.
With your ongoing support we will keep our Serbian voice strong, through these vital programs:
- Enhance our influence on Capitol Hill, with the Administration, and with various think-tanks in and around the Beltway;
- Allow better access to key media outlets in the nation’s Capitol, thereby enhancing our ability to influence public opinion through targeted public relations efforts;
- Provide a home for our Washington based activities; and
- Serve notice to those who seek to oppose the interests of Serbs that we are now in a position to defend ourselves where it matters most.
But the SUC is a non-profit organization and we must rely on the generosity of the Serbian Diaspora. With your ongoing support, we will continue both a full-time and all volunteer staff to be here in Washington providing a voice for Serbs everywhere throughout each and every crisis ... voice for Serbs today and hope for tomorrow.
Accomplishments
Your donations will allow us to continue our work in Washington and to expand on our accomplishments. As we all know, the March 17 2004 pogrom to eradicate Serbs from Kosovo was a terrible crisis for all Serbs. This created a trail by fire for our staff in Washington, but we managed to accomplish the following in a short few months:
- Generate a database of our members and friends so that we can map their addresses to congressional districts.
- Establish a presence on the Hill: SUC has become a legitimate voice to represent Serb-Americans in Washington.
- Create a list of people in Congress that we can work with.
- Create a list of active members willing to provide information to their Senator/Congressman.
- Create channels for information gathering.
As the SUC continues to build a coalition of friends in Washington, we still have much work to do. There is still no security in Kosovo and Serbs displaced from Croatia and Bosnia also need a voice in Washington. We must not be silent!
