HISTORICAL NOTES: The Eastern Crisis, which started with the Serb uprising against the Turks in Bosnia-Hercegovina (1875), included the Serbo-Turkish war and ended with the Berlin Congress of 1878, taxed the nation heavily but produced rather paltry results, as one of the main aims - liberation of the Bosnian Serbs - was thwarted by Austrian occupation.
