Destruction of churches and church property on Kosovo in days of March Pogrom (March 17-19, 2004)

St. Sava, Kosovska Mitrovica - South

Date of destruction: March 18, 2004

After they were prevented by strong UNMIK riot police and KFOR to take over the Serbian part of the city across the river, Kosovo Albanian mob angrily attacked the only Serbian spot (ghetto) in the southern part of the city - the church of St. Sava. Photos show arrival of the mob and KFOR soldiers who apparently did nothing to stop burning of the church and the parish home. Again KFOR proved to be a "paper tiger" who only watched Albanian rampage and setting the church on fire.

UNMIK/KFOR Report - March 18: Molotov cocktails thrown into perimeter of KFOR-guarded Orthodox Church in South Mitrovica. Church & several neighboring houses set on fire. Local Fire Brigade fight house fires but not Church, which is severely damaged.
