Destruction of churches and church property on Kosovo in days of March Pogrom (March 17-19, 2004)

St. Nicholas, Pristina

Date of destruction: March 18, 2004

The church was built in the 19th century and possessed a valuable Altar screen with dozens of old icons in wood-carved frames. The middle photo shows the parish home which was looted and set on fire. Fr. Miroslav and a few Serb families who found refuge in the basement of the house were rescued by UNMIK police in the last moment, while the entire church archive disappeared in flames. Several remaining Serb homes around the church were either looted or set on fire. Old tombs of Pristina Serbs and priests were opened and their bones scattered around the little cemetery.
