ST SAVA ESSAY
COMPETITION RULES
Article 1
Literary Competition dedicated to Saint Sava shall be established to the end of supporting the moral renewal of the Serbian nationality and helping the Serbian youths learn about spirituality and Saint Sava's teaching. The greater number of schools is included into this project, the more pupils and youths shall be introduced to their historical tradition. It is real to expect that at least 50 000 young Serbs become interested in this project for 3 years of this programme.
Article 2
The Serbian Unity Congress shall organise and administrate the Saint Sava Literary Competition for the best essay on Saint Sava and his teaching. All the costs of administration shall be borne by the Serbian Unity Congress, as confirmed by the Management at the meeting of February 3, 2002. To that end a special Fund was established which cannot be used for any other purpose. The donators shall be given receipts on the amount paid in the Fund.
Article 3
All the schools in the territory of the former Yugoslavia shall be allowed to participate in the competition, provided that the Serbian language is thought in the respective school and that the school agrees to participate. The award can also be established in the territories which do not have Serbian schools, but nevertheless cherish Serbian language and culture.
Article 4
All the pupils of the last grade of primary or secondary schools shall be allowed to take part in the competition.
Article 5
The Serbian Unity Congress shall specify the topics which shall be delivered every school year to all the schools participating in this project, 45 days before the Saint Sava Feast at latest.
Article 6
The essay shall not exceed 700 words and must be written in Cyrillic letter.
Article 7
The jury comprising 3 members shall choose the best essay. The jury shall be made of school professors and/or cultural representatives in that place.
Article 8
On the Saint Sava's Feast the awarded essay shall be publicly announced and read before other pupils, and the awards shall be publicly delivered. If possible, the essay should be published in local newspaper as news or as the integral text. The copy of the awarded essay must be handed to the Serbian Unity Congress, which shall deliver it to the donator - the sponsor for that school.
Article 9
The Serbian Unity Congress shall retain the right to publish the essay if necessary.
Article 10
In secondary schools or colleges, only one prize shall be delivered, while there shall be two prizes in primary schools - the first and the second prize amounting to USD 60.00 and USD 40.00 respectively. The first prize for secondary schools shall amount to USD 100.00 in cash and shall include a gratitude charter of the Serbian Unity Congress with the name of the donator.
CONDITIONS FOR DONATORS
Article 1
A donator/sponsor must provide USD 375.00 so that the prizes could be given in the next three years or USD 125.00 for one year, as of 2006/2007.
Article 2
A donator shall choose one or more schools in which its prizes will be presented. Each school shall be provided with a special donation.
Article 3
A sponsor can choose any of the schools in the whole territory of the former Yugoslavia, provided that the Serbian language and literature is thought there and that the school accepts to participate in the competition. If there are no Serbian school, one can choose Serbian cultural institution which offers educational courses for the Serbian children and youths.
Article 4
If several donators choose the same school, the preference shall be given to the first donator which contacted the Serbian Unity Congress, while others shall be suggested to choose another school.
Article 5
If a donator does not want to choose the school, he can authorise the Board of the Serbian Unity Congress to choose the school. In that case, the Board shall be guided by the idea to include into this project the schools in poor and distant regions, or regions of the former Yugoslavia in which Serbian language, culture and religion have been endangered.
Article 6
The award shall be named after the donator. The donator can also donate funds in the name of a deceased person, In Memoriam, or in honour of a live person provided that the person accepts such an honour. The Board of the Serbian Unity Congress shall contact the person and ask for the acceptance.
Article 7
The Serbian Unity Congress shall have the right to approve of the donator, bearing in mind that the name of the do nator or the person in whose name the award is given must be worthy of respect.
Article 8
If the donator wants to be anonymous, the award shall be given as the award of the Serbian Unity Congress.
Article 9
The donator can personally deliver the award if he wants to or if he is able to.
Article 10
The donator need not be the member of the Serbian Unity Congress.
Article 11
Several donators can unite and give one or more awards and choose the school or place jointly. The branches of the Serbian Unity Congress, educational parishes, cultural institutions and companies can be collective sponsors.
Article 12
Individual benefactors, SUC branches or the Serbian colony with the greatest number of sponsored school shall be given special gratitude charter - Saint Sava's Gratitude Charter.
Article 13
The Serbian Unity Congress shall announce the names of all the sponsors and schools at the annual assembly.
Article 14
SUC Board shall undertake the obligation to organise everything and bear administrative costs. It shall strive to publish in newspaper the name of the donators and the awarded pupils.
Article 15
Every deviation from the rules must be approved by the SUC Board.
