The Serbian Unity Congress would like to thank all the participants of the Serbian Youth Heritage Award sponsored by Western Union for participating in this contest.

We would also like to thank Western Union for recognizing the children of Serbian-American community and for providing the awards. We are proud to say that we have received essays from 14 states: California, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

The essays were reviewed by five of our members – a teacher, a publisher, a scientist, and two of our Washington D.C. volunteers and staff. The methodology used in selecting winners of the award included

• A rating of each essay by each reviewer;
• The student’s grade point average (GPA); and
• Noting each student’s extra curricular activities.

Award Criteria:

To be eligible for this award, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a high school junior or senior currently attending school in the U.S.
• Must be of Serbian descent
• Must currently maintain a GPA of 3.0
• Must actively celebrate their Serbian heritage by participating in the Serbian community.
