"MORE THAN SATISFIED WITH ACHIEVEMENTS IN 1996/97"
This is how the president of the SUC, Dr. Vojin Joksimovich, summarized
the 1996/97 year. The Eighth Annual Convention of the SUC was held in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 26-28, 1997. Delegates and guests
from the US, Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, Serbia and the Republika Srpska
participated in a highly successful and interactive convention which was
covered by a record number of Belgrade, Republika Srpska and Voice of
America media representatives. Culmination of the Convention was the
key-note speech delivered by US Congressman Randy Duke Cunningham (R-
California).
PRE-CONVENTION ACTIVITIES
The International Advisory Board (IAB) and the regular SUC's Board of
Directors met for approximately 6 hours between Thursday afternoon and
Friday morning. The IAB members were asked to formulate their issues in
advance. John Delich, IAB Board Chairman, synthesized the inputs into 21
points which were, in a lively dialogue, responded to by members of the
Board.
The luncheon speaker was Prof. Dr. Samuel Mikolaski, San Diego Chapter
President. The subject was "Democracy, Religion and the Future of Serbs".
Dr. Nenad Janicijevic, the Pittsburgh Committee Chairman, and his lovely
wife sponsored the evening of Serbian delicious food and entertainment at
their home for members of both Boards.
