9TH CONVENTION, WASHINGTON D.C., 18-20th OCTOBER, 1998
|
Grand Banquet
After the conclusion of the day's business, Bishop Artemije and Bishop
Mitrophan assisted by other clergy officiated at vesper services. The
day concluded with a grand banquet.
Greetings for the banquet were received from HRH the Crown Prince,
President Milo Djukanovic of Montenegro, and Ohio Governor George
Voinovich and were greeted with much applause.
The dinner included a presentation to Stella and George Jatras in
special recognition of their services to the Serbian community in the
US. Stella is a tireless campaigner for the Serbian cause.
The highlight of the dinner was the keynote address by James Jatras, Foreign Policy Analyst on
the Senate Republican Policy Committee. In a speech of dazzling eloquence and soaring images, he
blasted the Administration's whole policy toward Serbia, stating that it was criminal and worthy of being
brought to The Hague tribunal. He spoke movingly of the union between American, Greek, and Serb
core values and how these had been betrayed by the Administration. He urged Serbs to hold on to their
sacred vision of the heavenly kingdom. This was an electrifying speech, the eloquence and fine
sentiment of which greatly moved all in the audience. We would all like to thank him most sincerely.
Following Mr. Jatras' speech, annual fundraising took place.
