RESOLUTION I
Return of land in Kosovo and Metohija to the Serbian Orthodox Church
WHEREAS the Titoist government of the Second Yugoslavia illegally
confiscated, expropriated or seized large areas of land in Kosovo and
Metohija belonging to the Serbian Orthodox Church.
WHEREAS to this date these properties have not been returned to the
Church.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Serbian Unity Congress calls on the
government in Belgrade to promptly ensure ownership rights of the
Church to illegally seized properties and land in Kosovo and Metohija.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Serbian Unity Congress urges the
Serbian Church to publicly state that any agreement, treaty or
understanding about the future status of Kosovo and Metohija which does
not recognize the property rights of the Church is void and
unacceptable by the Church.
RESOLUTION II
According to Madeleine Albright, United States Secretary of State, the
stability of the Balkans is of vital importance to the United States.
However, current foreign policy does not support her conclusion. The
American government gives moral and material support to the rebellious
inhabitants of the Serbian regions of Kosovo and Metohija. Close to
half of those people are illegal settlers, and this is true also in
parts of Macedonia and Montenegro. They are responsible for terrorism
against Serbs and other people, civil disobedience and open rebellion
against legal authorities in this part of Serbia. In order to prevent
the enlargement of existing turmoil to all out war in the Balkans and
to secure badly needed stability in this region, delegates of Serbian
Unity Congress from the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, South
America and Australia resolve as follows.
The Board of Governors of Serbian Unity Congress will submit these
requests to the governments of the United States, the European
Community, Russia, NATO powers and member states of the United
Nations.
- The international community of nations will recognize the right of
self-determination for Serbian people throughout the whole territory of
the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
- The United States, European Community and NATO powers will strictly
respect the sovereignty of Serbia, Montenegro and Republic Srpska and
cease military threats against them.
- The UN will immediately discontinue inhuman sanctions against the
people of Serbia since that destroys lives of children and old people.
The transportation embargo also punishes subjects of free countries by
limiting their travel and humanitarian help to relatives and friends in
countries of their origin.
- The UN will order the government of Croatia to repatriate Serbian
refugees who are citizens of Croatia and who were expelled from their
homes by Croatian troops in their military actions 1995. Property
damages should be paid to these Serbs by Croatia.
- The international community should extend active support to the people
of Serbia, Montenegro and Republica Srpska to help them organize
democratic governments for transition to democratic and free market
society.
