7th Convention Resolutions


At the closing hours of the 7th Annual Convention on September 22, 1996, the Serbian Unity Congress delegates passed a number of resolutions reflecting their views on current issues. A summary follows:

  • Condemns the neo-Communist regime in Belgrade for the "national catastrophe of the Serbian people" and the loss of historic Serbdom lands;

  • Refuses to accept the "cleansing" and "occupation" of Krajina, Slavonia, Dalmacija, Southern Serbia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina where Serbs have lived for many centuries;

  • Calls fo cooperation "with all Serbian organizations and like-minded individuals" to work together to find and implement "the best democratic political solutions to the Serbian nation's onerous problems in order to bring about civil liberties, democracy and improvement of economic conditions";

  • Praises and supports all organizations and individuals who are bringing relief to "the suffering of the Serbian people";

  • Recommends that the Serbian people in the West use the name "Bosna" rather then "Bosnia";

  • Strongly objects to those imposed provisions of the Dayton-Paris agreement which are "unjust, unfair and demaging to the Serbian national interests";

  • Recognizes the decision of the Serbian people in Republika Srpska who through the September 14, 1996 election expressed their commitment to "the principles of democracy." Furthure, it encourages Repubika Srpska to follow this path and pledges the SUC support to this end.
