SIXTH ANNUAL CONVENTION

RESOLUTIONS

  1. It shall be resolved that the delegates at the S.U.C. Convention strongly condemn the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Serbs from Krajina, Slavonia and Serbian lands in Bosnia- Herzegovina, and the terrorist killings of Serbian civilians and bombing of Serb towns and villages in all former Yugoslavia. These are all war crimes for which the U.S. government, NATO and the leaders of the U.N. should be held responsible, as well as all leaders who failed to raise their voice, or take appropriate action against these atrocities.

We support efforts of Serbs within and without the former Yugoslavia to take all steps necessary to build a prosperous and democratic nation out of the present dire situation.

  2. It shall be resolved that the delegates at the S.U.C. Convention with other Serbs in the Diaspora, are deeply concerned with the failure of all Serbian political and cultural organizations to effectively protect the interest and integrity of the Serbian nation.

We support the members of the S.U.C. Executive Board in writing critically to the Serbian leadership in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the present crisis. We reaffirm the right and duty of all Serbs to engage in a democratic dialogue and to offer constructive criticism of all leaders for the ultimate protection of the national interest.

  3. It shall be resolved that, over the coming year, the primary focus of organization and activities of the S.U.C. shall be an educational campaign, particularly in the 1996 U.S. elections, to change current government policy: To cease bombing and other military attacks of any kind against Serbs; To support a just peace in the Balkans, including recognition of the rights of all Serbs to self-determination, and their human rights; To lift sanctions against Serbs. Against deployment of any foreign troops in the former Yugoslavia. In pursuing this policy the S.U.C. shall work with all Serbs in the Diaspora.
  4. It shall be resolved that the delegates request that the S.U.C. Board shall continue to support a working committee to gather information in order to present evidence to the International War Crimes Tribunal of crimes against Serbs in the boundaries of the former Yugoslav Republic of Croatia. Information of all crimes against Serbs may also be presented to other appropriate forums as approved by the S.U.C. Executive Board. All such actions by S.U.C. members shall be undertaken through the above committee.
  5. It shall be resolved that the S.U.C. Executive Board shall develop and execute a plan of work with other organizations and individuals regarding aid to Serbs in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the former Yugoslav republics of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Diaspora. Such work shall include medical and educational aid, protection of immigration rights and the development of a united legal rights and legal defense project. In such work the role of the U.S. government in precipitating the Yugoslav civil war shall also be addressed.
  6. It shall be resolved that the delegates request that the S.U.C. Board shall establish a committee and/or sub-committees to collect evidence of defamation and other civil right violations against Serbs in Diaspora to present to the American Civil Liberties Union, and other such organizations, including those in other countries, to seek their assistance in pursuing remedies to such violations.
  7. It shall be resolved that the delegates request that the S.U.C. Board shall continue to develop guidance encouraging meetings of all Serbian organizations, individuals and our allies to support the above resolutions, and all human rights, such as has been implemented in the Byzantine American Alliance.
  8. It shall be resolved that the delegates request that the S.U.C. Board shall issue a report on the implementation of the above resolutions at least once each quarter.
  9. It shall be resolved that the above resolutions shall be reported to all Serbian organizations in the Diaspora, to all possible Serbian news organizations both in the Diaspora and in the territory of Yugoslavia; and to such other organizations in the U.S. and internationally as may be determined by the Board.
  10. We support the right of the Serbian people expelled and ethnically cleansed from Krajina, Western Slavonia and other Serbian lands, to return to their ancestral homes and the right to the internationally agreed autonomy and protection from Croatian government genocide. For those Serbs who do not want to return, we support their right to receive just and adequate compensation for loss of their property and suffering.
